“The GFG was perhaps keeping work uppermost when it held its April 2014 conference literally opposite LAX airport, at the Embassy Suites LAX South…

GFG Group Administrator, Rachel Marchant, reports on the Los Angeles conference, 27 – 29 April 2014

The planes were taking off as was the GFG’s 5th Los Angeles casual conference …

Having stayed at the Embassy Suites LAX North several times, it had been decided to try the Embassy Suites LAX South for a different view.  Easy and quick transfers from airport to hotel afforded members the convenience of venue, even if LAX’s main attractions were somewhat further away.  There would be no distractions from the meetings!

Despite the conference being of an informal nature, there were plenty of structured events to facilitate both business and pleasure.  The casual conference format includes the following:

– Board of Directors’ meeting on Sunday
– Members’ social gathering on Sunday
– General Assembly / Forum on Monday morning
– Scheduled sales meetings on Monday afternoon and all day on Tuesday
– GFG casual meal at local restaurant on Monday evening
– Free drinks every evening courtesy of the Embassy Suites!

……the opportunity to socialise with many members in the hotel or at many attractive venues close by.

With the GFG being such a friendly group, events started with a social gathering on the evening of Sunday 27th April to welcome everyone to the conference.  We were pleased to know that local host members, Ken Hamanaka, again kindly invited the GFG visitors to a welcome party at their stunning residence.  The event was greatly enjoyed by all members.

The GFG’s casual conference started with an open forum, followed by the customary face-to-face sales meetings.  A time to get down to the business of freight and logistics.

Sales Meetings are over, it’s time to learn about yourself…

Adding value to the meetings.  After the business, it was time to benefit from the social experimentation, courtesy of the Instituto Ferrarezi.  The GFG’s Brazil member, Vogel Transport, had invited their friend and colleague, Eugênio Ferrarezi.  He asked a series of quick fire questions, with multiple choice answers, in order to ascertain: “Which animal are you?”  The results explained a lot about human inter-personal relationships and how to manage them effectively.

You can learn more about their study, training and workshops via their website.  The GFG members were certainly impressed by the revelations!  You can see the GFG / IF photo album here: https://www.facebook.com/pg/institutoferrarezi/photos/?tab=album&album_id=636294633123875

Drawing the events to a close was a social meal en masse at the reknowned Rock and Brews restaurant nearby – a fun place with quite a history behind it… www.rockandbrews.com

With plenty of pizza, salads and drinks to keep the GFG members energised, they enjoyed social time to relax and chat about the conference.

Though an optional outing, everyone joined in, proviign once more the strong bonds amongst the membership.

The GFG’s friendly nature meant that this was not just a gathering of 30+ companies but a gathering of 45+ friends.  Although the main motive is business, there were plentiful opportunities for socialising and strengthening the relationships for which the network is reknowned.
